F.L. STANTON ES CLOSURE

ATLANTA — Atlanta Public Schools (APS) announced its recommendations for the district’s Comprehensive Long Range Facilities Plan (CLRFP).  FL Stanton was facing 3 scenarios, after months of community feedback APS has made it's recommendation at their November 5th meeting.


F.L Stanton ES reopened in the Fall of 2024 after undergoing a $22 million renovation. F.L. Stanton is a 400-student institution located in Atlanta's Mozley Park neighborhood. The school consists of several buildings constructed between 1928 and 1998.


  1. Repurpose FL Stanton ES (closes as PK-5 spring 2027) 

  2. Maintenance improvements to M A Jones ES and Hollis Academy (K-8) 

  3. Portion of attendance area moves to Washington Cluster 

  4. Elementary boundary realignment within the Douglass Cluster along with the repurpose of Usher Collier ES and Scott ES (Requires ESPLOST funding) 

  5. Operational savings of $1.5m - $2m+ annually 

  6. Potential deferred maintenance cost avoidance of $100k • Capacity reduction of 400 seats

 

The Board of Education scheduled a first read of recommendations at its November meeting and will consider a vote at its December 3rd meeting.
